When did you get your first show dog?
I purchased my first show dog in 1978. “Mardi” was a cute little Black and Tan Cocker Spaniel puppy that I first saw at a “Fun Match.” He was not only my first conformation champion, but I put on my first obedience and tracking titles on him as well. Ch. Cypress Bayou’s Mardi Gras, UDT was “the start of it all!”
My first foundation bitch, Ch. Three Crown’s Gold Fever, CD was bred by Robin and Rune Nilsson and sired by Ch. Kapewood Prince Matchebelli out of Ch. Enos Acres Pretty Poison. “Lucy” lived to be 15+ years old and is behind all eight generations of Mardi Gras cockers.
I am a New Orleans native. Growing up in the New Orleans area, I enjoyed going to Mardi Gras every year with my family. “Mardi Gras Cockers” just seemed a natural fit for this fun loving breed.
I have bred 60+ conformation Champions, including an All-Breed Best in Show and multiple Specialty Best in Show winners. I have also enjoyed putting on many Obedience, Tracking, Rally and Agility titles over the years and one ASC Working Dog certificate under Ruth Tabaka.
My breeding goals have always been to breed to the Cocker Spaniel breed standard, dogs that are intelligent, sound and live long happy lives. I was very fortunate to start with sound healthy foundation animals and I try to maintain that in my breeding program. Eyes are checked annually, OFA certification is obtained on all breeding stock, and great temperaments are a top priority.
